The holiday season is quickly approaching, and many home and building owners around Utah are preparing to show their festive cheer in many different ways – including some that involve the use of their exterior property. There are several ways to use your landscape and even your physical structure itself to celebrate this fun time of the season, and many prefer to get started on this pretty early.
At Olympus Landscaping, we’re happy to assist Utah clients with a wide range of landscape design, landscape installation and many related services. What are some simple ways of utilizing your landscape for holiday decorations, and how should you go about these if you’ve decided to move forward? This two-part blog series will go over several basic tips.
Creating Outdoor Gathering Spaces
One of the top things that any holiday gathering will require is space – both for people to stand or sit, and also for any tables or serving areas you might set up. If your landscape doesn’t currently have a patio, deck or other such flat, open space, this could be the year to change that.
By installing some simple concrete pavers, you can create a small patio space that will be perfect for hosting holiday gatherings. If you want something a little more elaborate, you could also consider having a stone patio or other type of outdoor living space installed. This could be used not only for the holidays but also for entertainments and gatherings throughout the year.
Lights, Lights, Lights!
Lights are some of the most well-known forms of holiday decoration out there, and it’s important to note that they can go in places other than your house or structure itself. In fact, they can look just as good – if not better – when placed along your landscaping. This is something you could do yourself or hire out to a professional landscape designer or installer.
One of the best ways to use lights in your landscape is to line walkways and paths leading up to your home. This will help guide guests to your front door and also create a pretty and festive look. You could also use lights to highlight specific areas or features in your landscape, such as an ornamental tree, fountain or garden bed.
If you do decide to put lights in your landscape, be sure to use ones that are designed for outdoor use. These will be made to withstand the elements and will help you avoid any potential hazards. Also just make sure you take them down and store them properly when the holidays are over.
